Why do calls to the direct DDI drop when calling from a mobile phone?

If you are logged into the 8x8 Work mobile app and you are trying to call your direct-dial number from your mobile phones SIM number the call will ring then drop. This is happening as the application is recognising you're calling yourself.

If you are testing your direct dial number call from a different phone number, not on 8x8 or log out of the 8x8 app and test.
