ContactNow: How to Input Key Presses When Logged in on a Softphone

Objective

To have keypresses on your softphone work when you hit an IVR or message board.

Answer

This will be handled by your respective endpoint, for example, Bria (X-Lite) or Zoiper.

Bria (X-Lite)

  1. Click Softphone > Preferences.
  2. Click Calls tab.
  3. Click the different DTMF settings from the list presented.

  4. Click OK.

Zoiper

  1. Click Settings > Preferences.
  2. Click Advanced tab.
  3. Next to Send KPML, click the dropdown list to adjust the DTMF setting.

  4. Click OK.

For Zoiper 5, configure the SIP account and click Advanced. You will find the option to change the DTMF mode under Compatibility Modes.

Additional Information

DTMF tones act as digital keypresses. Sometimes the end destination is unable to determine what key you're pressing, so adjusting the DTMF tone setting may fix this.

You can easily, quickly, and safely test whether your adjusted settings have worked by calling into your own IVR and seeing if pressing a key performs the corresponding action.
