Activating Cordless IP DECT Phones

Objective

Activating DECT phones for use with 8x8 services. If you are looking for instructions on how to activate non-DECT desk phones, see How do I activate my phones?

You’ll need:

  • The base unit you’ll be activating.
  • The handsets you'll be pairing with the base unit. Note: It is best to allow handsets to charge 14 to 16 hours before first use.
  • The email with your activation code(s).

If you have not received an extension welcome email or do not have these credentials, speak to your phone system administrator to have them created or assigned, or to have the email re-sent.

If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it via the 8x8 Work for Desktop login page.

Troubleshooting

If your Spectralink handsets are not charging, check to see if the green battery protection strip has been removed from the bottom of the battery. The battery will not charge if this is in place.

If you are not prompted on the Spectralink handset to Enter AC code, power down the handset, wait two minutes, and power the handset up.

If power-cycling the handset fails, move on to Advanced Activation Steps.

To manually enter an activation code

  1. Use the softkey sequence Menu > Settings > Advanced > Login > Create Login > Select Base Unit > Enter AC.
  2. Enter the activation code and press the # key.
  3. If you have multiple base units, after you select Create Login, you may need to select the base unit you need to connect to from a list of base units. This is done based on the ARI number printed on the back of the base unit. Select the ARI number of the base unit you are connecting to.
