Unable to Update Virtual Office Desktop

Are you unable to download and install the latest version of Virtual Office Desktop? Uninstall and Reinstall the program to resolve the issue. Learn more.


When attempting to upgrade to the latest version of Virtual Office Desktop using the Check for Updates feature or the in-app upgrade prompt, you are unable to download and install the update.

This may include the warning message A newer version of 8x8 - Virtual Office already installed. Setup will now exit.

Uninstall then reinstall Virtual Office Desktop.

Uninstall in Windows 

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel Programs Uninstall a Program, then uninstall 8x8- Virtual Office.
  3. Go to My Computer and open C:\Users\{Username}\Appdata\Roaming\.
  4. Delete all files starting with 8x8 (App data might be hidden, you'll have to unhide it).
  5. Delete all cache, cookies, and temporary data from the system.

Uninstall in MacOS

  1. Go to Finder.
  2. Click Applications in the menu on the left.
  3. Find 8x8 - Virtual Office.
  4. Right-click the application icon and select Move to Trash.
  5. Empty trash.

If you are unable to upgrade VOD within the app, simply uninstall your current version of the app, then download and install the latest available version.


This may be due to one of the following:

  • You are upgrading from an older version of VOD that has direct update issues
  • Network issues preventing the update download from completing
