Updated Mexico Dial Plan Changes Effective August 3rd, 2019
Update August 15, 2019:
- All existing Mexico dial-plans as of 8-15-19 have been updated and no further action is required
- All new customers or additional account add-ons to existing customers will still need to contact Support to push the correct dial plan from ops-tools
A permanent fix is being developed by SMP Engineering team at this time. There is no ETA on when permanent fix will go into production. See JIRA SMP-4602 for additional permanent fix status.
Mexico dial-plan change summary: Starting on August 3rd, 2019 a new standard 10-digit dialing plan will be implemented in Mexico. This change in dialing format is not specific to 8x8, as it is being implemented by the Federal Telecommunications Institute of Mexico (FTIM). This change does not impact your service with 8x8 in any way provided users comply with the dialing changes outlined below.

Issue: The current way people are used to dialing within Mexico will change on August 3rd, 2019 as follows:
- All phone numbers will be dialed through 10-digit dial plan
- Area Codes must be used when dialing to a seven or eight-digit phone numbers
- The ‘01’ prefix used on Long Distance, 800 and 900 numbers is no longer required
- 044 and 045 (used when dialing mobile phone numbers) is no longer required

When dialing to Mexican mobile phones from abroad, the prefix 1 will no longer be required.

Additional considerations:
- Emergency/special calls or short code dialing such as 911, 030, 040, etc., will not change
- To dial international all calls must still dial ‘00’
- Right after August 3rd, 2019 phone calls will not be completed if you keep using prefixes 01, 044 and 045
