How do I set my outbound Caller ID?

Your outbound caller ID is the name and phone number that is displayed on the receiving device when you call out. When you make a call, the recipient's caller ID display will show the information that you have selected. The outgoing caller ID will stay the same until it is manually changed once again.

Outgoing caller ID can be configured in either Account Manager (by an administrator, for any extension) or the Virtual Office Online or Desktop application (for a user's own extension). 

The internal caller ID is the name displayed on the receiving device when you call another internal extension. This can be configured only in Account Manager by an account administrator.

In Account Manager, an administrator may also lock and unlock caller ID editing privileges for individual extension users.

Choose from the options below to configure outbound caller ID on your 8x8 Virtual Office system. (To set your main company number as the outgoing caller ID for all of your 8x8 extensions, click here.)

Configure in Account Manager for a Single Extension

  1. Log in to your 8x8 Account Manager.
  2. On the top navigation bar, click Phone System.
  3. Click View All Extensions.
  4. Find the extension you wish to edit and click Edit next to it. The Extension Information section should automatically open.
  5. Under External Caller ID, edit the desired options:
  6. Under Internal Caller ID, enter the First Name and Last Name to create the internal Caller ID Full Name.
  7. If desired, check the box next to Caller ID Option Locked To User - When checked, individual extension users will be unable to edit their own caller ID info within Virtual Office Desktop or Online.
  8. When finished, click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Configure in Account Manager for Multiple Extensions

  1. Log in to your 8x8 Account Manager.
  2. On the top navigation bar, click Phone System.
  3. Click Edit Multiple Extensions.
  4. In the table, edit the caller ID info for any extension(s) listed:
    • Caller ID First Name
    • Caller ID Last Name
    • Display No. for Outgoing Calls
  5. To edit ALL extensions all at once, enter the new info in the first row of the table, then click the checkmark to submit changes. All extension caller ID info should automatically update on-screen.
  6. When finished, click Save at the bottom of the screen.

Configure in Virtual Office Desktop/Online for Your Own Extension

Note: Your user profile must have permission to edit these settings before you can proceed. If you are unable to edit your own Caller ID Profile, contact your system administrator and request to have these privileges unlocked. You can only edit your extension in Virtual Office Desktop if you are an Account Manager user in Classic Mode.
  1. Log in to the Virtual Office Desktop or Online application.
  2. Go to Settings > My Services.
  3. Under External Caller ID, click the listed phone number (and/or edit first and last name) to change your outgoing ID.
  4. When finished, click Save at the bottom.
