International Number Charges for Calling Certain US Area Codes

Many international destinations, such as Puerto Rico, Guam, and Jamaica, use country code 1—the same country code for the United States. With SIP trunking, even if you have the Domestic Only or Disallow International Calling option enabled, certain international destinations can still be dialed. SIP trunking rejects anything dialed beginning with 011, but you can still call many countries without having to dial 011. Calls set up by pressing the 1 + area code + seven digit number will lead to international charges if you are calling the areas listed below.

Preventing International Calling Charges

Block destinations that use country code 1, such as the countries below.

  • 242 Bahamas
  • 246 Barbados
  • 264 Anguilla
  • 268 Antigua and Barbuda
  • 284 The British Virgin Islands
  • 340 The US. Virgin Islands
  • 345 Cayman Islands
  • 441 Bermuda
  • 473 Grenada
  • 649 Turks and Caicos Islands 
  • 664 Montserrat
  • 670 Northern Mariana Islands
  • 671 Guam
  • 684 American Samoa
  • 721 Sint Maarten
  • 758 Saint Lucia
  • 767 Dominica
  • 784 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • 787 Puerto Rico
  • 809 Dominican Republic
  • 829 Dominican Republic
  • 849 Dominican Republic
