Virtual Office Skype for Business Integration for Windows Desktop FAQ

What does the Skype for Business plugin do?

It allows Skype for Business users to call their Skype contacts through 8x8 Virtual Office Desktop, instead of Skype. Just right-click on a contact in Skype and select Call with 8x8 to initiate a call.

Do I need to run both Virtual Office Desktop and Skype?

Yes. Virtual Office Desktop and Skype must both be installed and running to enable Skype contact calls through VOD.

Is 8x8 phone presence (user call status) displayed in Skype for Business?

Currently the Skype for Business integration does not pull user call status from 8x8 Virtual Office v6.0.0 and higher.

When will presence be available between Skype and Virtual Office Desktop 6.0.0?

Presence from Virtual Office Desktop 6.0.0 to the Skype for Business plugin is in development. New versions will be published before the older presence-enabled versions are retired.

In the interim, users who require Virtual Office presence in Skype for Business must have the following installed:

What are the system requirements for using this plugin?

  • Windows 7 or later
  • Skype for Business
  • Virtual Office Desktop version 6.0.0 and higher
  • Virtual Office Pro add-on (Account Manager), or an X2 or higher license (Configuration Manager)

Also: If the 8x8 Virtual Office Microsoft Integration version 5.0.10 or older is currently installed, it must be uninstalled before installing the Skype for Business plugin.
