What is Virtual Office Desktop (VOD) New Experience mode?
All versions of Virtual Office Desktop v 5.x have two different user interfaces, a Classic mode and New Experience mode. These two modes are actually two different versions of Virtual Office Desktop, with the Classic variant being a locked, older version of the application. As a result, Classic mode has not benefited from bug fixes for over a year and users may experience issues that have been resolved in the New Experience. Here are some of the key differences between Classic and New Experience modes.
What does the Classic to New Experience change mean?
When a user launches VOD, the app defaults to either Classic mode or New Experience mode based on PBX configuration. Following the VOD service change for your PBX, when your users relaunch VOD they will default to New Experience mode. Note: If users override the service setting through VOD application settings, they will default to their chosen setting.
Can a user override the default mode set up on the VOD service for my PBX?
Yes. Users are able to toggle between the two user interfaces through VOD application settings. Note: This may not work for users on 5.9. Please use the workaround explained here.
How will I know when the configuration change is scheduled to happen for my company?
Company contacts designated on your 8x8 account to receive change and maintenance notifications will receive this communication in advance.
When will users notice the change to the New Experience mode?
Users will see the new interface on their next login or restart of Virtual Office Desktop application after the service change. Note: If users override the service setting through VOD application settings, they will default to their chosen setting.
Can a user see New Experience mode before the configuration change?
Yes. Users are able to toggle between the two user interfaces through VOD application settings.

If I have users in multiple regions, will they all be impacted by this change?
Yes. Users in all regions on PBXs associated with your 8x8 company account are expected to be impacted by this change.
Will my users on VO Mobile be impacted by this change?
As a result of this change, VO Mobile users on PBXs in the North America region might not display the correct custom presence to their contacts until they log out and log back in to VO Mobile again. This doesn't affect their telephony presence, which will continue to show correctly to their contacts when they are on a call or in a virtual meeting.
