Inbound Calls to the Main Number Failed with Fast Busy

Symptom

Inbound calls to the main number immediately receive a fast busy tone. For example, the main number is pointing to an extension. When calling the main number, the caller immediately hears a fast busy tone. However, when calling the extension directly, the call completes as expected.

Applies To

  • Account Manager
  • Call flow to main number

Resolution

Reset the Main Number. 

  1. Log in to Account Manager.
  2. Go to Phone System > Company Settings
  3. Under Caller ID, set the Main Number to another extension such as the voice mail extension (555), or to a service (Auto-Attendant). 
  4. Click Save.
  5. Go back and edit the Main Number to the desired number/extension. 
  6. Click Save.   
  7. Test the number to see that the call is routed correctly.
  8. If there is still an issue, create a case with 8x8 Technical Support.

Cause

Possible back end issue.
