What permissions are required by the 8x8 Work for Mobile app?

Answer

When downloading and installing Work for Mobile to Android or Apple mobile devices, the following permissions are requested in order to use the application.

Android Permissions 

Mandatory
  • Files and media: Access to ringtones location and other files used by the app
  • Microphone: Audio input during calls and meeting
  • Phone: Access your phone number and network info, required for making VOIP calls, voicemail, call redirect, and editing call logs
  • Calendar: Needed for the meetings calendar integration
  • Camera: Set profile pictures, send pictures in messages, use the camera during meetings
  • Notifications: To be able to receive calls and messaging/voicemail push notifications
Optional
  • Contacts: Access to contacts stored on the phone and unlock possibility to call them using Work app

iOS Permissions

Mandatory
  • Microphone: Audio input during calls and meeting
  • Siri and Search: To launch Siri command to call and send message with the 8x8 Work App
  • Notifications: To be able to receive messaging/voicemail push notifications
Optional
  • Background App Refresh: With Background App Refresh turned off, iOS apps won't update or run in the background, instead they'll stay paused until they're directly active again on screen
  • Contacts: Access to contacts stored on the phone and unlock possibility to call them using 8x8 Work app
