Which analog telephone adapter features are supported by Fuze?

Question

Which analog telephone adapter features are supported by Fuze?

Applies To

  • Analog Adapters (ATA)
  • Fuze

Answer

If you are using a standard analog handset that is connected to an Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) or VoIP to Analog Gateway, you can access a variety of common features.

The following table provides a breakdown of supported and unsupported features.

Supported features with an asterisk (*) have work-arounds available for Poly handsets.

Feature Supported or Unsupported Notes

Basic Calling

Supported

Outgoing/Incoming calls work as normal.

Conference Bridges

Supported

Conference bridges can be dialed and used as normal.

Music On Hold

Supported

This feature is not affected by using an ATA.

Parking Lots

Supported*

Using * codes, no visual lots.

Speed Dials

Supported*

Speed dials directly on handsets do not work. It is, however, possible to set up custom extensions through the Portal.

Hold

Supported*

Using hold feature key if available or hook switch/flash key.

Handset Conferencing

Supported*

Uses hook switch, or flash key(s).

Transfer

Supported*

Uses hook switch, or flash key(s).

Caller ID

Supported*

Most analog handsets with Caller ID displays work, but this is not guaranteed as Fuze does not have control over how Caller ID passes through various carriers and whether that information can be properly translated from analog to digital and back to analog.

Call Waiting

Supported*

The FLASH key on most analog handsets works with call waiting

Directory

Unsupported

No access to the handset directory.

Multiple Lines

Unsupported

ATA’s only support one line per port.

Buddy Watch/Presence

Unsupported

Buddy Watch and Presence features are not supported.

Hook Switch Features

Hold, transfer, and 3-way calling can be accomplished using the hook switch or flask key on most analog handsets.

Hold

To place a call on hold, press the flash key or hook switch once.

Transfer

When a call is on hold, the person on hold hears hold music, and a dial tone is heard on the analog handset. At this time another number (DID) or extension can be dialed. When ringing, the call can then be warm* transferred by letting it complete, and then pressing the hook switch or flash key, or blind* transferred by pressing the hook switch or flash key when it is still ringing.

*Warm transfers allow you to ring and speak with the intended transfer recipient before completing the transfer.

*Blind transfers connect the caller with the transfer recipient immediately when the recipient answers

3-Way

When a call is on hold, the far end hears hold music and the analog handset hears dial tone. At this time another DID or extension can be dialed. When the new call is answered press the hook switch or flash key twice (quickly) to start the conference. A confirmation beep will be heard and all three callers will be connected. Until the conference fully connects, the second caller only hears hold music.
