8x8 continually improves products and services, such as the Virtual Office Desktop unified communications client, which receives updates about once a month. Having all users on the latest version of Virtual Office Desktop will promote ease-of-use and allow access to the latest features and bug fixes.
In light of this, we are retiring older versions of Virtual Office Desktop. This means that users will no longer be able to log in to retired versions of Virtual Office Desktop, and will be prompted to upgrade to continue use. Each subsequent version will then be retired per the schedule outlined below.

Who is affected by version retirement?
Versions of Virtual Office Desktop are retired 6 months after a new version has been released. Example: If you are on version 5.1 and version 5.2 is released on January 1, you have until July 1 to update, as version 5.1 will be EOL 6 months after the next version (5.2) is released.
Note: Check which version you are on by going to either Virtual Office > About or Help > About Virtual Office. The version number will appear in the pop-up window.
Why does 8x8 do this?
Encouraging adoption of our latest releases ensures users have access to new features, bug fixes, and security patches. These improvements are driven by user feedback, providing a better experience and reducing incidences of issues that have been fixed in later releases.
How do I prepare for this?
Download the current version of the app for Windows or macOS. If you do not have rights to install software on your computer, speak to your system administrator.
What if I don't update?
You will no longer be able to log in to older versions of Virtual Office Desktop, but will instead be prompted to contact your system administrator to update to the current version. (If you are able to install software on your own computer, you can simply update directly and begin using Virtual Office Desktop again immediately.)
Will this prevent me from logging in to or using other 8x8 services or software?
No, this policy only affects the Virtual Office Desktop software. An inability to log in to Virtual Office Desktop due to use of an old version has no bearing on your other 8x8 services, such as Virtual Office Mobile, your voicemail, your desk phone connectivity, Virtual Office Account Manager or VO Configuration Manager, 8x8 Support Portal (My 8x8), etc. While you may be prevented from using a retired version of Virtual Office Desktop to join an online meeting, you can still access the browser-based 8x8 Video Meetings online.
